Nestled between sweeping meadows and the base of skyscraping mountains, Granite Lake attracts many visitors for reasons that need no further explanation. However, the often-overlooked crown jewel of this area is the glorious ascent to Granite Pass, an easy morning stroll from the lake. (Note: The ascent from the valley floor to the lake and pass is long and can be extremely hot. Even hikers who are in good physical condition should plan an early start to avoid the midday heat, and carry at least two quarts of water per person.)
