Four bright lakes in sturdy granite cups, dazzling vistas, and nature’s finest flower gardens combine in this not-to-be-missed excursion into the Mokelumne Wilderness. This is a perfect area with wide trails traversing broad, meadow-covered benches. There are even a couple of optional, difficult, cross-country excursions. Unfortunately, like so many perfect areas, this one has been nearly loved to death. As part of the healing regimen prescribed by forest managers for this over-loved area, camping is restricted to specified sites. Campsite permits must be obtained from the Carson Pass Information Station before starting the hike. No campfires are permitted.
