A hike on a historic trail featuring historic cabins near the Mogollon Rim. This hike is part of the Cabin Loop, a system of trails that connects three historic cabins in the Mogollon Rim country. (None of the trails in this system are shown on the topographic maps.) Pinchot Cabin is named for Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the USDA Forest Service. It was used for many years as a fire guard station. The trail system provided the main transportation routes through this remote country during the early days of ranching and forestry. Most of the trails have been lost during the development of the forest road system, but several, including the U-Bar, have recently been relocated and restored. Sections of the trail are cross-country but are well marked by recent tree blazes.
