This hike starts on the lower slopes of Mingus Mountain and takes you into a rugged canyon and a pine-forested valley. It can also be done one way with a car shuttle. As an out-and-back hike, this is a long one with significant elevation gain. Optionally, you could leave a vehicle at Quail Springs and hike the trail downhill one way from the Allen Spring Road. Above Quail Spring, the trail climbs steadily along the brushy slopes above Black Canyon. This chaparral brush becomes thicker as you climb.
