A little-used trail into a remote portion of the Munds Mountain Wilderness. If you want an all-day hike away from the crowds, you’ll like this trail. Unlike many of the canyons in the Sedona area, Jacks Canyon is open and spacious. It also gets less use than the shorter trails. The first mile or so of trail parallels the Jacks Canyon Road as it heads northeast to skirt a subdivision. As the canyon starts to swing north, you’ll pass an old stock tank, Jacks Canyon Tank, about 2.4 miles from the trailhead. Unlike many of the canyons in the Sedona area, Jacks Canyon is open and spacious. It also gets less use than the shorter trails. As you continue north, the canyon gradually narrows. At its head, a short, steep climb leads to the saddle between the Mogollon Rim and Munds Mountain. Turn left on the Munds Mountain Trail and climb another 0.4 mile to the summit. The best views are from the west rim of this broad mesa.
