A easy hike to a less-visited canyon in the Red Rock–Secret Mountain Wilderness. The mouth of Long Canyon is over a mile from the trailhead, so the first section of the hike is through open pinyon-juniper flats, with tantalizing views of the canyon walls ahead, as well as Mescal Mountain to the south. The mouth of Long Canyon is over a mile from the trailhead, so the first section of the hike is through open pinyon-juniper flats, with tantalizing views of the canyon walls ahead, as well as Mescal Mountain to the south. Contrast this quiet area with the first part of the Boynton Canyon Trail. As you pass the north tip of Mescal Mountain, you’ll reach the wilderness boundary and the junction with the Deadman Pass Trail.
