This is a long but spectacular hike through rugged, alpine terrain on San Francisco Mountain in the Kachina Peaks Wilderness. You can do a shorter, easier hike on this trail system by starting at the Kachina Trailhead and hiking the last 2.7 miles of this loop in reverse, turning around at Freidlein Prairie. This option is a delightful walk through beautiful forest, with an elevation change of 400 feet.
