A hike to a remote glacial canyon and along a scenic alpine ridge in the Kachina Peaks Wilderness. This is an excellent hike to do during hot weather. The canyon becomes deeper as you climb, and the open ponderosa pine forest gradually gives way to a denser forest of Douglas-fir, quaking aspen, and limber pine. About 2.3 miles from the trailhead, the forest opens up, with a view of upper Abineau Canyon and the northeast slopes of Humphreys Peak. In June, snow usually lingers on the mountainsides.
