This hike offers two different natural experiences. First you’ll travel underground through the dark and quiet of Subway Cave, and then you’ll walk in the open air along Hat Creek with its open sky and rushing waters. It’s always cool in Subway Cave, so bring a sweater and two flashlights per person. Cooling lava flowing through Hat Creek Valley created Subway Cave.
