Located in the southernmost corner of the state, the Chiricahua Mountains are home to a number of plants and animals not normally found in the United States. Fauna usually associated with Mexico’s Sierra Madre, such as the Apache fox squirrel and the Mexican chickadee, are often spotted in the Chiricahuas. Tree species such as the Chihuahua pine grow here as well. A good place to enjoy these semi-exotic species is in Rucker Canyon, which is in the southern end of the range.
