A great winter hike, this trail takes you to the top of Table Top Mountain through lush Sonoran desert. A pleasant stroll through magnificent saguaro forest starts the hike. This section wanders up a gentle valley between rugged low hills. As the trail approaches the base of the mountain, it becomes steeper yet. The view is open in all directions except the northeast, where the summit plateau blocks it. The Bradshaw Mountains are visible to the north and the Santa Catalina and Santa Rita mountains to the southeast. The distinctive square tower of Baboquivari Peak is obvious to the south, and the bulk of Harquahala Mountain is visible to the distant northwest. Visitors may see Cooper’s hawk, red-tailed hawk, prairie falcon, Gambel’s quail, or turkey vultures. Mule deer, javelina, desert bighorn sheep, coyote, and antelope jackrabbits are also present within this 43,400-acre wilderness.
