An overnight backpack into the Salome Wilderness Area. The trail starts in ponderosa pine forest and climbs southwesterly to the pass between Jack Mountain and an unnamed peak to the north. Beyond the pass, the trail drops into Workman Creek, crosses it, and then climbs about 600 vertical feet to the top of the far rim. The trail then passes south of a knoll and descends steeply into Hells Hole, a particularly dramatic section of Workman Creek. The trail may be overgrown in places. Finding the route can be challenging. Camping is possible along the creek. The determined angler can try his or her luck at Workman Creek for German brown and rainbow trout. Other wildlife in the area includes mule deer, white-tailed deer, javelina, mountain lion, coyote, black bear, and wild turkey.
