A long, scenic trail near the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. Allow at least five days for traversing the entire route one-way. (Or sign up for the annual Zane Grey Ultramarathon and run, walk, or crawl the entire trail in one day! The current record is less than 9 hours.) Most of the route traverses forest consisting of an interesting mixture of ponderosa and pinyon pine, several species of juniper, Arizona cypress, and various oaks. Near water sources, deciduous trees become more dominant.
