This is a great day hike to a seldom visited overlook of the Grand Canyon. The trail starts off as an old road heading uphill. Pinyon pines and junipers grow along the rocky slope. Eventually the trail turns left and traverses the slope before dropping into the upper reaches of Saddle Canyon. Already the scenery is taking on a grand scale. Off to the north are the Vermilion Cliffs. To the east are the Echo Cliffs. Between the two sets of cliffs and slicing into the Marble Platform is Marble Canyon, the beginning of the Grand Canyon. Closer at hand, mule deer tracks are common on the trail. Also, be alert for mountain lion tracks and scat. These magnificent predators are rarely seen.
