Each of Coyote Canyon’s major tributaries has its own unique character, and Sheep Canyon is no exception. Palms are not so common here, but sycamores and cottonwoods thrive. Your footsteps will play counterpoint to the gurgle and spatter of water over polished boulders. Shady grottos provide coolness and shade at frequent intervals along the way. Depending on the current wet or dry cycle, the canyon’s stream may or may not be flowing in the fall season, but there’s almost always plenty of water in winter and spring. Though parts of Sheep Canyon are rugged and overgrown with lush vegetation, foot traffic in the lower end has hewn out a discernible, if primitive, footpath.
