A series of easy trails in Cathedral Gorge State Park. Cathedral Gorge was formed from layers of ancient lake deposits known as the Panaca formation. These sediments were deposited on the bed of an ancient lake approximately one million years ago. As the climate changed and the lake dried up, erosion exposed the soft siltstone and clay shales and began to carve them into the fluted shapes seen today.
