A day hike on an interpretive trail featuring numerous prehistoric petroglyphs, pictographs, rock shelters, and caves. Grimes Point Archaeological Area offers two trails. The easy Petroglyph Trail is a short trail through a petroglyph boulder field. The longer Hidden Cave Trail provides access to petroglyphs, rock shelters, and geological features. Interpretive leaflets are available at the trailhead. Hidden Cave, a major archaeological site, was used prehistorically by hunter-gatherers as a cache or storage site. The cave was occupied between 3,400 and 4,000 years ago. Free public tours of the cave begin in Fallon at 9:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The trails are open to the public all year.
