A day hike or overnight backpack trip to a historic water system in the Carson Range. This trail climbs from the shore of Lake Tahoe about 1.5 miles to Tunnel Creek station, a maintenance station on the Marlette water system. This water system transported lumber as well as valuable water to Virginia City during the mining period. Flume lines originating at Marlette Lake and Mill Creek carried water and wood to the western portal of this 4,000-foot tunnel through the Carson Range. At the eastern portal, the flumes then connected to the Hobart Creek water system. Some of the flume lines are still visible.
