One of the most popular trails in the Cameron Pass area, Michigan Ditch Trail has something for everyone. It is an almost level trail at the outset and is an excellent entrance to Thunder Pass and the Never Summer Mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park. It offers spectacular views of the Never Summer Range and Nokhu Crags across the Michigan River drainage, Diamond Peaks, and North Park in the distance. It also features a gentle roll at the start and can be used for either hiking or biking because it is a wide service road for the Michigan Ditch, part of the Transmountain/Transcontinental Divide water storage system that funnels water from the western slope of the Continental Divide to the thirsty eastern-slope cities. It can be used for short and easy family jaunts or backcountry adventure for those who want to spend the night and surmount Thunder Pass and sneak in the back door of Rocky Mountain National Park.
