Nestled at the base of Mount Massive, Colorado’s second highest mountain, the Highline Loop is a glorious snowshoe hike deep in the quiet woods southwest of Leadville. The hike forms a triangle combining the Rock Creek Trail, the Colorado Trail, and the Highline Trail to create the loop. We are enveloped in dense stands of lodgepole pine the entire way, every now and again stealing peeks toward the gnarly heights of Mount Massive and Mount Elbert. The trail begins with a long stretch of gently rolling forest, finishes with a fun, cruising descent, and is only interrupted by one challenging stretch of climbing that will test your strength and warm your bones no matter how cold it may be out there.
