This trail is a wonderful aspen-season hike when the leaves turn a glowing yellow. But be warned, it is a well-known destination and you and your pet may encounter many other hikers, especially on weekends. The good news is that in less than 2 miles, the crowds thin out considerably. The hike is along a segment of the Colorado Trail (CT), which starts in Waterton Canyon in Jefferson County and continues across the state to Durango. Thus, you can easily make this hike into a backpack, exploring the CT in either direction.
