This hike along Three Mile Creek is through a dense deciduous and conifer forest and has multiple stream crossings. These crossings are shallow and often no more than a large step across to the other bank. Dogs love this hike. It’s a favorite Colorado Mountain Club doggie hike. The hike also offers spectacular autumn foliage and high mountain scenery at timberline. Since the Three Mile Creek drainage begins in the southern half of the Mount Evans Wilderness, wilderness rules apply and your dog must be leashed. Because the Three Mile Creek Trail penetrates deep into the Mount Evans Wilderness and intersects with the Rosalie Trail, this day hike can easily become a one- or two-night backpack with camping in one of the many meadows inside the wilderness area.
