This is a fiendish trail, despite the number of people who actually run laps on it. It is not only a great workout, but the views it offers of the Indian Peaks Wilderness to the west and the city of Boulder to the east are spectacular. Grade: This is the shortest trail with a "difficult" rating in the entire book, and with good reason. The run up Mount Sanitas is at an average 18 degree angle of ascent, which includes rough rocks, ledges, roots, and any other obstacle you can think of. The final mile back to the trailhead along the Dakota Ridge trail is easy beginner material, but the trick is getting there.
