This segment of the Platte River Greenway is worth a visit, especially if you’re a fan of James Michener. The park is named for one of the most engaging characters in Michener’s Centennial, the story of the land that became Colorado. Pasquinel is a French trapper who fearlessly goes into Colorado and Wyoming to hunt beaver, then transports his bounty by harnessing himself to the bundled pelts and dragging them across half a continent. Just north of the park is the Overland Golf Course, which creates a buffer between the greenway and busy Santa Fe Drive. The side trip to Ruby Hill offers a 360-degree view of the metro area. The walk ends at Overland Pond, which was once a quarry owned by the city of Denver. There are several places where your pet has access to the water and can frolic in the sandy shallows near the bank.
