The trail starts in Garden of the Gods Park and climbs to Rampart Reservoir where you find great hiking, mountain biking, camping, boating, and fishing. Views are breathtaking at every turn. A convenient introduction to the backcountry around Colorado Springs. Great views of the front range, Air Force Academy, Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods Park. Unlicensed vehicles are not allowed on Rampart Range Road or Mt. Herman Road. Just a few marked side roads are long enough to enjoy. (Exception: Rampart Range Recreation Area on north end of Rampart Range Road near Sedalia.) Maintained gravel road with occasional rocky spots and small washouts. Rampart Range Road, in the area around Rampart Reservoir, is suitable for 2WD cars, but as you descend towards Colorado Springs, the road gets very rough. Mt. Herman Road is rocky, steep and narrow in a few places but suitable for stock, 4x4 SUVs in good weather.
