A series of springs that flows a mere thousand feet before tumbling over a travertine ledge into the Green River. The creek is home to an endangered species of fish found nowhere except in this warm water creek. Kendall Warm Springs is a unique geological and biological habitat. Several springs emerge from the north face of a limestone hillside. The springs consolidate in two pools and then form a creek that flows 984 feet to the Green River. Just before entering the river the creek passes over a 10-foot-high travertine ledge, formed over thousands of years by the deposition of calcium carbonate from the warm springs. The temperature of the springs at their source is a constant 85 degrees F, but the water cools to 81 degrees F by the time it enters the Green River. The surrounding air temperature at this 7,840-foot elevation varies significantly, ranging from a record high of 103 degrees F to a bone-numbing record low of minus 54 degrees F. Best time of year: Summer and fall. Snow may close portions of the road during the winter. Restrictions: The warm springs and creek are closed to bathing and wading to protect the population of endangered fish.
