A deep, crystal-clear warm springs pool in the southwest foothills of the Little Rocky Mountains. The quintessential swimming hole. If you wax nostalgic for the old swimming hole of simpler times, Landusky Plunge is for you. The 77-degree-F springs emerge from a rock wall about a foot above the plunge and flow into a narrow channel that quickly widens into the deeper pool. Volunteers have constructed rock dams in the narrow channel to form pools that are slightly warmer than the plunge itself. The shallow pools are great for relaxing soaks on a hot day. If you’re more adventurous, slip out of the shallow pools and into the deeper, clear waters of the main plunge. An old earthen dam and irrigation headgate are responsible for this pristine pond, which is more than 100 feet across and about 10 feet deep. A limestone peninsula about 20 feet wide juts into the pool and is a perfect spot for jumping into the deepest part of the plunge. Primitive.
