An open-air wooden pool that has changed little since the 1880s. Soaking at Norris Hot Springs is like stepping back in time. The old 30-foot by 40-foot soaking pool looks much as it must have 100 years ago. The pool is constructed completely of wood, including a wooden deck, an old wooden changing room, and a weathered wooden fence surrounding the pool. Eight to ten separate springs with an average temperature of 127 degrees F feed the pool. The hot water is air-cooled by forcing it through a small vertical pipe at one end of the pool. Natural artesian pressure shoots the water out of the pipe in a graceful 12-foot arc above the pool, creating a constant hot water shower on the bathers below. Close to 500,000 gallons of water a day flow through the pool. There is no detectable sulfur smell in the water.
