Pearl Street Mall won national acclaim after it opened in 1977. Boulder decided to turn one of its busiest downtown streets into a four-block-long pedestrian mall that is now the city’s vibrant heart. The mall is a fabulous place to watch people. You can see every type of Boulderite here—students, shoppers, browsers, street musicians, jugglers, mimes, and business people. Numerous historic buildings are found along the mall. Fascinating shops include bookstores, a kite shop, jewelers, chic boutiques, specialty gift shops, and art galleries. Numerous restaurants line the mall. Look for the 14th Street Grill (outdoor patio dining), Pour la France, and the Falafel King, an inexpensive cafe with great Mediterranean cuisine. The Walnut Brewery and Oasis Brewery are both situated on the mall. Special attractions: Pearl Street Mall, Squires-Tourtellote- Malick House Museum, Mapleton Hill homes, Hotel Boulderado, shopping, dining, and historic buildings.
