This walk traverses the historic University Hill neighborhood and the campus of the University of Denver. Started in 1864 by Methodists as the Colorado Seminary, the University is both the largest and oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain states. The adjacent University Hill residential area arose as a “college town” alongside the University in the 1880s. The neighborhood remains an enclave of historic homes around two-square block Observatory Park and the Chamberlain Observatory, the university’s astronomical observatory. Special attractions: Observatory Park, Chamberlain Observatory, Professor’s Row, University Hall, Iliff School of Theology Building, Evans Memorial Chapel, and historic homes.
