Here’s a town with spirit and creativity. What began as a one-family town grew rapidly during World War I when good rains brought plentiful grain crops and shipping grain became a boomtown activity. The town fell into rivalry with neighboring Scobey over baseball. Plentywood solved its baseball problems by hiring members of the Chicago Black Sox, blackballed baseball players who rigged the 1919 World Series. Guess who won that game! Plentywood has survived radical politics, the Depression, an oil boom, and drought. Today the town has around 2,000 residents and is busy turning its creativity to improving life on the prairie. Among their latest endeavors are construction of a community town square and organization of an annual Hot Air Balloon Rally in August, sponsored by the Elks. This eTrail provides detailed information on family-friendly things to do. The destinations include: Sherwood Park and Municipal Swimming Pool, Sheridan County Museum, Box Elder Reservoir and Bolster Dam, and Montana Ostrich Ranch.
