Portions of all three forks of the river, each a powerful culmination of numerous small mountain streams, are justifiably designated National Wild, Scenic and Recreational Rivers. Despite dams at Hungry Horse and below Polson, most of the river remains wild and undeveloped, offering pristine nature experiences of fishing, floating, or observing free-flowing waters. An evening or afternoon spent enjoying the river from one of the fishing access sites can fly by, and this kind of simple entertainment for families is heartily recommended. The destinations include: Quarter Circle Bridge, West Glacier to Blankenship Bridge Float; Teakettle Fishing Access to Presentine Bar Fishing Access Float; Presentine Bar Fishing Access to the Old Steel Bridge Float; and Old Steel Bridge Fishing Access.
