The largest Bitterroot Valley town, Hamilton, was planned and built by Marcus Daly, one of Montana’s “Copper Kings.” Seeing potential to acquire much-needed timber for his mines and smelters, Daly bought the existing sawmill there and had the town built to support his new timber industry. Daly also loved the climate of the Bitterroot and thought it a good place to raise his thoroughbred horses. Today, Hamilton is the Ravalli County seat and attracts many retirees. This eTrail provides detailed information on family-friendly things to do. The destinations include: Ravalli County Museum, Daly Museum, Blodgett Canyon Trail, and Canyon Falls.
