The Swan Creek Trail follows the north bank of the creek past meadows, beaver dams, volcanic rock and a pond. Swan Creek meanders through the meadows and tumbles over granite rock where the canyon narrows. The trail continues along the creek for five miles before it begins a steep ascent to 9,600 feet, where the trail connects with the Hyalite Creek Trail and the Gallatin Divide Trail. From the parking area, the wide path heads east along the bank of Swan Creek. It quickly narrows to a footpath and enters the forest. The trail traverses the edge of the hillside overlooking Swan Creek. At 0.5 miles is a pond, then a beautiful meadow. Swan Creek winds through the meadow, pooled up by beaver dams. The trail rises and falls along the hillside, always in view of Swan Creek.
