Back in 1883, Story Mill was the largest flour mill in Montana. It was also the first business in Bozeman serviced by the railroad. Railroad tracks, known as the Story Mill Spur, lead 4,400 feet to the historic mill. The Story Mill Spur Trail is an interpretive trail along the railroad right-of-way. After nine years of dedicated work by the Gallatin Valley Land Trust, this historic trail has become a reality. The trail crosses Rocky Creek, where benches have been placed in the shade of the cottonwood trees. The hike passes the Bozeman Livestock stockyards and the historic Story Mill to Bridger Canyon Drive.
