Beavertail Hill State Park is a small 65-acre gem located 26 miles east of Missoula. The park fronts the Clark Fork River with camping and fishing sites. A one-mile, self- guided interpretive trail was developed by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. The park was named after the hill to the west, which was originally shaped like a beaver. Interstate 90 was built, chopping off the tail of the formation. The trail weaves through forests, prairies, wetlands, and riparian habitats. An interpretive brochure describes the history of the area and its natural features, including wildlife, insects, and the surrounding vegetation. The area is also a spring and summer habitat for moose.
