Babcock Creek, a tributary of Spring Creek, is located in the Rock Creek drainage of the Sapphire Mountains. The creek’s headwaters begin at Mormon Spring and Horse Pasture Spring, then flow through a narrow canyon on the southern base of Babcock Mountain. The Babcock Creek Trail drops into Babcock Canyon and follows the creek up canyon through a conifer forest with riparian vegetation. The hike traverses talus slopes, crosses the creek numerous times, passes overlooks, and leads to Mormon Spring in a flower-filled meadow. From the spring, the trail climbs the west slope of Burnt Mountain to a ridge with far-reaching views of the Sapphire Range.
