Norm Schoenthal Island is on the west end of Riverfront Park in Billings. The island sits on the north edge of the Yellowstone River and is formed by an oxbow side channel of the river. Wendell’s Bridge accesses the lush sanctuary, filled with grassy meadows, stands of cottonwoods, and willow trees. The island has two level loop trails—the 1 .9-mile outer loop around the perimeter of the island and a shorter 1 .2-mile inner loop. At the trailhead, just north of Wendell’s Bridge, is the Conservation Education Center for outdoor education.
