The Placer Basin Trail climbs 6 miles up the east side of the main Boulder drainage to the 9,400-foot East Boulder Plateau. This hike includes the first two miles of the trail along Hawley Creek. The trail enters the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and climbs a thousand feet to a high alpine saddle with dramatic vistas of the surrounding mountains. Near the trailhead, by Camp Mimanagish, the trail crosses a footbridge over the tumbling Boulder River. For extended hiking, the trail continues up a steep incline to Breakneck Plateau at the south end of East Boulder Plateau.
