Slough Creek is a slow-rolling, meandering creek in a gorgeous glacial valley. The creek is a popular fishing destination, well known for its cutthroat trout. The hike begins near the secluded Slough Creek Campground at the mouth of the canyon and follows a historic wagon road through open fir and aspen forests. (The road is still used by horse-drawn wagons for access to the Silver Tip Ranch, located just outside the park.) The trail emerges in the broad open valley at an oxbow bend in Slough Creek. Beyond the crescent-shaped bend, the creek snakes through scenic, wildflower-laden meadows surrounded by mountains and imposing walls of granite rock. Straight north, and over several layers of mountains, is the main Boulder River Valley (Hike 91 ).
