Goat Meadow lies between the East Summit and the West Summit (Beartooth Pass), at over 1 0,000 feet. To the west are the Quintuple Peaks and Mirror Lake, and to the east are the Twin Lakes (Hike 37). The treeless, alpine meadow sits atop a large peninsula that juts outward 2,500 feet above U-shaped Rock Creek Canyon. A 1 0,590-foot rounded hill sits in the center of the meadow. This hike loops around the hill on the rim of the rolling meadow, with sweeping vistas of Beartooth Mountain, Mount Rearguard, the pyramid-shaped Bear’s Tooth, Twin Lakes, Glacier Lake, Hellroaring Plateau, and the glacier-carved Rock Creek Canyon. This meadow is seldom hiked and does not have a trail, but it is easy to follow because the unobstructed vistas and the canyons act as visual guides. Mountain goats frequent the north end of the meadow. Patches of their hair often linger among the scattered boulders near the rim.
