The West Fork Trail begins at the end of West Fork Road and heads deep into the backcountry. The trail continuously follows the West Fork of Rock Creek along the canyon floor, constricted between Silver Run Plateau and Red Lodge Creek Plateau. The path winds through the forest and open boulder fields while overlooking the creek and the sculpted peaks of Elk and Bowback Mountains. Various trickling brooks flow close to the trail, and the roaring sounds of the West Fork of Rock Creek are always nearby. The hike passes two magnificent waterfalls cutting through rock canyon walls en route to Quinnebaugh Meadows, a lush valley between rugged granite peaks. This trail is part of the 1 9-mile hike that crosses Sundance Pass and ends at the Lake Fork of Rock Creek (Hike 30), a popular overnight shuttle hike.
