This challenging but popular hike climbs to the top of a prominent summit in the Sawtooth Range. It is not open to horsemen or mountain bikes. The hike begins by following the West Fork Teton Trail, which takes the form of a grassy roadbed. After 0.2 mile, it enters an extensive clearcut. The rather faint path follows an old logging road that zigzags up through the clearcut. A second signpost marks the spot where the trail to the summit veers westward. From this point on, the path is open to foot traffic only. The track soon enters the forest, a mixed stand of lodgepole pine and subalpine fir that is underlain by a generous carpet of beargrass. A small brook soon cascades down the wooded mountainside; this stream is the last surface water on the hike. The path soon strikes an eroded gully and follows it up to the base of a steep bowl. Views open up to the south, with Mount Lockhart dominating the scene.
