This trek combines the Lodgepole Creek and Jenny Creek Trails for a journey to the heart of the Youngs Creek valley. The trail was rebuilt in 1999, eliminating many of the boggy spots along the Jenny Creek valley. Although the trail is lacking in scenic vistas, it makes up for it with rapid and easy access to the heart of the wilderness. The trail begins by following Lodgepole Creek through an aging forest where lodgepole pines are being replaced by spruce and fir. The slopes above the north side of the creek show signs of the 2000 Montana fire. Upon reaching the forks of Lodgepole Creek, the path rock-hops the eastern branch and climbs along the ridge that divides the two streams. A sparse woodland of pine allows views of the surrounding ridges as the trail climbs steadily. It tops out on a false pass, then wanders north across Youngs Pass to the base of Youngs Mountain.
