This trail follows a low ridgetop to the headwaters of Grizzly Creek, which is surrounded by a series of low but imposing peaks. It also boasts good views into the southern part of Glacier National Park. This track cuts back to the west, quickly making a shallow ford of Giefer Creek and climbing onto the ridgetop that separates this stream from Grizzly Creek. Once atop the ridgeline, the trail climbs gently through lowland forest, then steepens as it passes onto the northwest slope of the ridge. With increasing altitude, subalpine fir come to dominate the overstory, and the forest gradually opens up to reveal the angular peaks and ridges surrounding the head of the valley. Avalanches have groomed neat paths across the forested ridges across the valley, and grizzly bears can sometimes be spotted foraging in these distant openings.
