This is a long day hike from Nyack Creek ford to Loneman Lookout. Loneman Lookout is a seldom-visited, unmanned fire lookout that rises above theold Nyack Ranger Station. After fording the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, the trail follows the Boundary Trail north, across Nyack Creek. At mile 1.2, the Loneman Lookout Trail leaves the South Boundary Trail and climbs onto a bench, which it follows for several miles before climbing steeply up the west face of Loneman Mountain. Almost the entire trail is within the area burned by the Harrison Fire in 2003. Grassy meadows begin to dominate the landscape halfway to the summit, and the trail makes a complete circuit of the mountain in its last mile. The summit overlooks Harrison Lake and Walton Mountain to the north, with the peaks of the Great Bear Wilderness looming to the south, crowned with Great Northern Mountain. To the southeast, the rocky fang beyond Threetops Mountain is Mount St. Nicholas.
