This is a long but fairly easy day trip or overnighter along a well-known river with nationally famous trout fishing and a good chance of seeing a rattlesnake. If you’re an angler, you’ve undoubtedly heard of the Madison River, one of the most highly acclaimed fly-fishing streams in the United States. However, you probably have not heard of a special hiking trail developed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along the Madison River in rugged Bear Trap Canyon. If you fancy large trout, this is a 9-mile slice of heaven, but this is for fly casters who are willing to walk. Motorized vehicles, mountain bikes, and horses aren’t allowed on this trail.
