A long, easy walk on dirt fire roads through mature forests and upland swamps in an area managed for wildlife. Named for a notable Delaware conservationist and wildlife biologist, Norman G. Wilder Wildlife Area is a preserve managed primarily for hunting. The trails are well- maintained fire roads, closed to vehicles, that pass through fields, forests, and swamps protected to provide habitat for game. During the hunting seasons, September through January, a trip here would be ill advised. But the rest of the year, the lengthy trail and the flat, wooded terrain make this a good hike for those who like to walk far and fast. Special considerations: Use insect repellent during summer.
