Millers Ferry Lock and Dam is another US Army Corps of Engineers project along the Alabama River that slows the flow of the river to make it navigable, control flooding, and generate power for the area. The resulting reservoir, Millers Ferry, or what is sometimes referred to as East Bank, covers more than 27 square miles, has more than 500 miles of shoreline, and creates an amazing network of wetlands and sloughs offering plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing and birding by canoe, kayak, or even the vestibule of your tent.
