Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is divided into two districts: the Southern Visitor Center and the North Rim Interpretive Center. This first set of hikes starts at the southern end, the main facility, which is located just off U.S. Highway 441, 10 miles south of Gainesville or 1 mile north of Micanopy. Start: At a parking lot on Savannah Boulevard, Distance: 6.25-mile loop at the first main intersection, about 1 mile. Approximate hiking time: 3 hours. Other trail users: Equestrians. Finding the trailhead: From US 441, turn right (northeast) onto Savannah Boulevard and go about 1 mile past the park entrance to the first main intersection. Parking for the trailhead is on the right.
